LG’s 3DTV ambitions


With HDTV becoming a well established technology in many living rooms, manufactures now have there eyes set on is 3DTV. However, in order for 3DTV to become as established as HDTV, both manufactures and broadcasters will have to work together to develop the technology

LG recognised this need and have teamed up with Korean broadcaster Skylife to produce a line of 3DTVs and 3D content. This is the first time a TV manufacture has worked together with a broadcaster to produce dedicated content made especially for a specific TV. Additionally, the partnership will strive to set industry standards and promote the technologies developed in a bid to expand the market.

Mong-ryong Lee, the President and CEO of SkyLife said to Newswire “SkyLife aims to be the top digital satellite 3D broadcaster in Korea. We expect the partnership between LG and SkyLife to propel us to the lead in digital new media. We plan to invest KRW 30 billion (USD 25 million) in creating 3D content in collaboration with LG,”



The line of 3DTVs LG are planning to produce will range from 42inch – 72inch. Additionally, LG are planning to use the technology in their 150inch projector which is due to be released next year. At the moment the focus is just on Korea however, there are plans to expand in Europe and the US.
